Harbor Brass Quintet Supports "Kevin on the Roof" STRIVE Fundraiser

A musical kickoff to a long-standing fundraising drive had the Maine Pops Concert Band's Harbor Brass Quintet giving an hour-long performance from the roof of Patriot Subaru in Saco on September 8.

The project was the annual "Kevin on the Roof" fundraiser for STRIVE, led by STRIVE U Program Director Kevin Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is currently camping atop the auto dealership’s roof and since September 8, he’s collecting donations in his pursuit of raising $90,000 to support all STRIVE programs. He won’t leave the roof until he’s met his goal.

STRIVE, which stands for Socialization, Transition, Reflection, Innovation, Vocation and Education, is a non-profit organization based in South Portland that assists tweens, teens and young adults with intellectual disabilities.

Harbor Brass members Larry Langmore (trumpet), Nate Caron (trumpet), Jim McDonough (trombone), Alison McCarty (French horn) and Tom Mackie (tuba) played a series of “rooftop melodies” to support Kevin’s initial fundraising efforts, while also playing some popular tunes performed at numerous summer venues.

The Harbor Brass is one of 10 small ensembles of the Maine Pops Concert Band. These ensembles ranging from brass and woodwind quintets to flute choirs and a traditional big band, and participate in a variety of venues supporting community events, church services, retirement communities and other efforts. If interested in requesting a small ensemble, please contact president@mainepops.org.

The Maine Pops is a 501(c)3 educational non-profit corporation. Contributions may be tax-deductible.
