Harbor Brass Quintet Concludes Portland Jetport Arrival Series

The Harbor Brass Quintet completed their four-performance series with the Portland International Jetport during a one-hour session at the jetport's arrival hall on August 22.

An affiliated ensemble of the Maine Pops Concert Band, the Harbor Brass greeted arriving passengers with about 15-20 selections ranging from "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Sweet Caroline" to polka and Dixieland medleys.

Prior to the performance, the quintet - trumpeters Nate Caron and Larry Langmore, trombonist Jim McDonough, French horn player Alison McCarty, and tuba player Tom Mackie - got a photo opportunity from the jetport tarmac in front of a commercial jet. Many thanks to Katherine Glidden, the jetport's customer experience manager, for the flightline time.

Although this series is complete, ensemble lead Larry Langmore is looking to book some December holiday engagements at the jetport, working with Glidden for prime travel opportunities to perform.

As for the next project, the ensemble will perform again on September 8 from the roof of Patriot Subaru in Saco, ME supporting the annual "Kevin on the Roof" fundraiser for STRIVE. The engagement - slated for 4:30 p.m. - will kick off an effort to raise $90,000 for STRIVE.

STRIVE, which stands for Socialization, Transition, Reflection, Innovation, Vocation and Education, is a non-profit organization based in South Portland, ME that assists tweens, teens and young adults with intellectual disabilities.
